Alexander ColumnZotova Elizaveta 7A The Alexander Column is in the centre of Palace Square in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The monument was created after the Russian victory in the war with Napoleon's France. The column is named after Emperor Alexander I of Russia. The Alexander Column was designed by the architect Auguste de Montferrand. The monument — the tallest of its kind in the world — is 47.5 m tall and is topped with a statue of an angel. The statue of the angel was designed by Russian sculptor Boris Orlovsky. The face of the angel is similar to the face of Emperor Alexander I. The column is a single piece of red granite, 25.45 m long and about 3.5 m in diameter. The pedestal of the Alexander Column is decorated with military symbols, sculpted by Giovanni Battista Scotti. In Saint Petersburg we can see a lot of landmarks too.
