Sometimes, a short name for this country is used, which is the UK. The UK is an island country, it is surrounded by the water: by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea in the north-west and west, and by the North Sea in the east. The Great Britain is separated from the European mainland by the English Channel. In the north-west, It is separated from the island of Ireland by the North Channel. It is the largest island in Europe and the eighth largest in the world.
There are many rivers in Britain. They are not long but some of them are deep. The longest river is the Severn.There are many mountains in the north of England and in Scotland But they are not very high The highest mountain in Great Britain is Ben Nevis.There are many lakes in Scotland. The most beautiful is Loch Lomond.
The climate of Great Britain is mild. it is often foggy and rainy. The summer is not very hot and the winter is not very cold. Political systemThe UK is a parliamentary monarchy, at the same time the UK is a constitutional monarchy traditionally ruled by a monarch.Today she is her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Head of the State, though this is a rather symbolic role.British Parliament is the oldest in the world and it consists of two chambers: the House of Lords (the highest Court in the state) and the House of Commons.The House of Lords consists of 500 life peers.The House of Commons is formed by regular elections in which citizens elect 659 members of Parliament representing different political parties. The UK has it’s own flag. It’s name is the Union Jack. It has tree crosses: the cross of St. George;the cross of St. Andrew; the cross of St. Patrick; The UK consists of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are: London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast. The UK is a highly developed country with many scientific and cultural centers. This country gave us a world language, almost all modern ball games and many others kinds of sport. It created the culture which influenced the evolution of the world civilization.
London London is the capital of England and it is one of the largest in the world. About 7 million people live there. There are a lot of sights: Trafalgar square, the Tower of London, Big Ben, Westminster Abby, National Gallery and others.
