Russia boarders with: Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, Belarus, the Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and Northern Korea, Japan and the United States. 142 million people live in Russia. GeographyRussia is washed by the Arctic ocean and Pacific ocean. Russia has many beautiful and long rivers. They are the Lena, the Volga, the Ob, the Yenisei. There are mountains such as the Ural, the Altai, the Caucasus. Russia has the deepest lake in the world, it is Baikal. Natural zones are taiga, tundra, forest, steppe, semidesert. Russia is rich in coal, oil, gas, iron, gold.
Climate There are only two seasons — winter and summer, spring and autumn are usually the brief periods of changes between low and high temperatures . The coldest months are January and February, the warmest is July. In winter, the temperatures are colder both from south to north and from west to east. Summers can be quite hot.
Animals and forests 40% of area are forests. The fifth part of all forests in the world are in Russia. There are a lot of animals. For example: white bears, tigers, walruses, leopards, wolfs and so on. The country has 40 National Parks and 101 nature reserves.
Russian holidays There are many public holidays in Russia. The New Year is the first in calendar and in its popularity. People celebrate Russian New Year with the New Year Trees and gifts, and Ded Moroz. Christmas is celebrated on the 7th of January. Another three major religious holidays are Shrovetide, Easter and Trinity, they are always celebrated on Sunday. Kurban Bayram and Uraza Bayram are the holidays of Russian Muslims. Russian public holidays include Defenders of the Fatherland Day (23 February), which is for Russian men,; International Women's Day (the 8th of March); International Workers' Day (the 1t of May); Victory Day (the 9th of May); Russia Day (the 12th of June); and Unity Day (the 4th of November).
