AMERICA by Eugene ( 2010) The United States of America is one of the greatest countries is the world. It is situated in the North America continent and is washed by two oceans: the Pacific and the Atlantic. The USA boarders only two countries – Canada and Mexico.This great country has a lot of mountains, rivers, lakes. The main mountains are the Appalachi and the Cordilierra. The longest rivers are the Missisippi and Missouri. The climate of the country is very changeable. In the southern part it is subtropical while the northern part has a very cold weather in winter. America has fifty states and one Federal district of Columbia. The capital of the USA is Washington. The main cities are located near the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. New – York, the largest city of the country, is situated on Manhattan island. Other large cities are San – Francisco, Los – Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Phoenix and Dallas. The main industrial centres are Chicago and Detroit, with their greatest automobile company General Motors. The USA is a country with great holidays, customs and traditions. The Largest Cities of the USA. There are very many large cities in the USA. It was G. Washington, who chose the place for the capital in 1790. There are no sky – scrapers in Washington because no one building must be taller than the Capitol. The Largest Cities of the USA. New York is the largest city in the USA and the biggest sea-port. Today Manhattan is the heart of business and commercial life of the country. There are many other places of interest in New – York: Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, the shopping districts and the United Nations Building.In Manhattan at Broadway there is Columbia University, one of the biggest universities of the USA. Chicago – is one of the biggest industrial cities in the USA and the second largest after New – York.Los Angeles, in California, is the centre of modern industries. The State Structure of the USA The United States of America is a federative republic. Since 1959 the Federation consists of 50 states. The President is the head of the state. There are 100 Senators and 435 members in the House of Representatives. The Senators are elected by popular vote for a term of six years two from each state, the Representatives are elected for two years. America enjoys its independence in their country affairs, including financial matters. However, state laws and actions of state authorities must not conflict with the Constitution of the USA.
