Egypt is the gift of the Nile, the longest river in the world. The vast majority of the population lives in the Nile Valley. 96 percent of Egypt’s territory is a desert with a few oases. The official language of Egypt is Arabic. HistoryIn ancient times the valley of the "long river between the deserts" was the seat of one of the earliest civilizations built by humankind. It was known for its development of hieroglyphic writing and its achievements in agriculture, art and architecture. It was the period of Pharaohs. The pyramids were royal tombs. Today they are the visiting card of modern Egypt and the monument to the disappearing civilization.
