It was founded in the second century B.C. In ancient times Olympia was the most important religious and sports center in Greece. SIGHTS The main attraction of Olympia was the Olympic Stadium. Also in Olympia there were ancient temples: the temple of the God Zeus and the temple of the Goddess Hera (the wife of Zeus). There was the Olympic Park and the Archaeological Museum. Olympic Games The first Olympic Games took place in that city. They took place in 884 B.C. Zeus organized the first Olympic games. There were several kinds of sport: throwing, fist-fighting, riding chariots. The Olympic games took place every 4 years. Every year many tourists and sportsman come to Olympia, because they want to learn the history of Olympia. We are near the great Temple! Look! Many birds are flying and singing in the temple of Zeus!
